G'day Terry,

My name is Kevin Jorgensen. I live in Vietnam. For several years now I've been trying to find my old section 2ic, Bob Thacker. Bob was a "pom" who came out from England and signed on for 3 years to go to Vietnam. We served together in G@E Plt., the last infantry Plt. in Vietnam. When his tour was up he was sent to Singapore for discharge and returned to the U.K.

No one that I know of had heard from him since which seemed unusual as he was a very likeable bloke and popular with everyone. All my enquiries had reached a dead end until a couple of days ago. I received the following e-mail from a gent in England who has gone to a lot of trouble to track him down. I have e-mailed the Daily Express in hope they can furnish me with a copy of the Articles in question.

I have given the information to our Platoon Cmdr and Sergeant. Could you advise me as to where else I can post it on the net? I'd like it to reach the other blokes who served with AAAGV if possible.

Thanking You.

Kevin Jorgensen.

HI KEVIN,

I really must apologise for having taken so long, in getting back to you with the information that you were looking for regarding Bob, he really was very difficult to track down, and it's taken all this time since you asked.

BOB signed on with a security company, Security advice Services based at Guildford, it was a firm owned and run by a guy called John Aspinall.

It was basically a recruiting agency for supplying former professional soldiers, as mercenaries to who ever needed them.( angola)

Bob was on a contract, with other Brit's to train and fight in the Lebanon with one of the principle christian right wing factions known as Dany Chamons Tigers, who were fighting against the Palestinian left wing alliance in BERUIT.

IN A FRONT PAGE ARTICLE published on Aug 4th 1976, by the Daily Express under the title, "THE DOG'S GO BACK TO WAR" stated that British Mercenaries had gone to Beruit to support the Lebanese Christians. A few days later the Express reported that one of the men supplied by Aspin, Robert Thacker a 28 yr old Vietnam Veteran from Australia, had been killed while leading an attack on a Palestinian position. I can only assume that he was buried at one of the Christian churches.

I am really so sorry to have given you such bad news about your "MATE" it will come as a bit of a shock to you, and others who knew him and I trust that you can pass it on, and have a "wake"to his memory.

If I can be of any further help to you please do not hesitate to ask, and please do keep in touch, as I said sorry for being a bit slow, but as you know I do travel quite a lot, and it's not easy to catch up with things.

YOURS AYE

Col lived in Crib Point, but further details are not known. Apparently he had been dead for a couple of days before being found. It is indeed sad that again one of our Vietnam Veterans and a real character has left us. Col was born in September 1943 and was heading towards his 62 birthday.

It is with heavy heart that I pass on the news that an old friend has Crossed over the Bar. Colin James 'Col' RITCHIE R59463.

Col lived in Crib Point, but further details are not known. Apparently he had been dead for a couple of days before being found. It is indeed sad that again one of our Vietnam Veterans and a real character has left us. Col was born in September 1943 and was heading towards his 62 birthday.
